熱海は、山が海に迫った地形が生み出す景観が印象的だ。市域の約半分が傾斜地である熱海は、平地確保のための大規模な都市開発が進められてきた。海岸を埋め立て、山を切り開くような開発のサイクルによって、土砂が人為的に動かされ、風景が変わっていく様を作品を通して考えている。タイトルは、1960年刊行の「熱海市総合都市開発計画構想案/CITY OF ATAMI MASTER PLAN」から引用している。

Atami’s landscape is striking, characterized by mountains that press close to the sea. With approximately half of its urban area consisting of sloped terrain, Atami has undergone extensive urban development to create flat land.
Through my work, I contemplate the changing scenery resulting from development cycles that involve reclaiming coastlines and carving into mountains, artificially moving earth and sand.
The title is derived from the “CITY OF ATAMI MASTER PLAN,” published in 1960.
